Leadership philosophy and success stories behind Inspire!
Inspire! was designed and built by a team of leaders, developers, musicians and artists at InnovaSystems International, LLC whose mission is to create extraordinary solutions through innovative software. We originally designed the program to help our own employees win at work by providing mobile tools to help better connect with our company's values and implement the leadership principles we've been teaching our team for 15 years.
Innova's leadership is heavily influenced by Ken Blanchard and Stephen R. Covey.
Ken Blanchard has had an extraordinary impact on the day to day management of millions of people and companies. He is the author of several best-selling books including the blockbuster international bestseller: The One Minute Manager. His books have combined sales of more than 18 million copies in more than twenty-five languages.
Four of the executives of InnovaSystems are graduates of Ken's leadership program called the Master of Science in Executive Leadership (MSEL) at the University of San Diego (USD). Innova's CEO, Chris Wollerman, says that "MSEL has been the most influential program in all of our lives. Not only has it provided practical tools to use at work every day, it has helped each of us become better leaders at work and better spouses and parents at home." During our participation in MSEL, Ken released Leading at a Higher Level which he calls 'Blanchard on Leadership'. In addition to the foundational principles from an MBA such as finance, marketing and strategy, the MSEL program covers courses each month based on Leading at a Higher Level taught by Ken and his team of authors.
In 2010, Ken asked the graduates of MSEL program to take 'The Executive Challenge' which was to implement the ideas from his book: Helping People Win at Work. Innova's answer to this challenge was to create Inspire! and implement a partnering for performance process company-wide. Based on the success of the Inspire program internally, we created the Innova-Mobile division to offer Inspire! to the world through Apple's App Store. Inspire! is also being ported to Android and Windows 8 mobile platforms as well as a web-based version with all devices synchronized to the cloud which will be available in summer 2012.
Inspire! helps people implement Blanchard's Partnering for Performance philosophy by providing a way for people to plan and discuss their priorities and needs through a weekly planning process. Inspire! users can set their development level on any task and help their leaders identify the appropriate level of direction and support they need in the weekly planning report.
Stephen R. Covey has also been very influential in the creation of Inspire! Covey is the author of one of the most successful leadership books of all time, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. InnovaSystems has implemented many of the FranklinCovey programs including the 7 Habits Signature program, Focus, the Four Disciplines of Execution, Great Leaders and their newest course called The 5 choices of Extraordinary Productivity. Everyone on Innova's executive team is certified by FranklinCovey to facilitate and teach these classes to employees on a regular basis.
Inspire! enables Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind, by providing a function in the app to help users define, track and evolve their personal mission statement, values and professional contribution statement. It also supports Habit 3: Put First Things First, by allowing people to visually connect with their roles and goals on a weekly basis and schedule their 'big rocks' through planning objectives. One of the keys to success is the emotional connection a personal image makes with your mission, values, roles and goals. It sets you up to plan your week on what matters most and when used regularly, helps you make real progress.
InnovaSystems has enjoyed great success by providing employees with Inspire! on the iPad combined with the teachings from Blanchard and Covey. After a 2-day course, employees are required to team up with an accountability partner for 5 weeks to plan weekly against their roles and goals, meet 1-1 with their partner to discuss their Inspire! planning report and provide feedback to the executive team on their progress at the end of the 5 weeks. The results of this process have been an increase in company revenue, organizational goal achievement, employee engagement and satisfaction.
