The Importance of Accountability Partners

clock November 21, 2012 07:27 by author Administrator
“The ancient Romans had a tradition: whenever one of their engineers constructed an arch, as the capstone was hoisted into place, the engineer assumed accountability for his work in the most profound way possible: he stood under the arch.” –Michael Armstrong The difference between ordinary and extraordinary in reality is just that little bit extra. It’s pushing yourself just a little bit further than you did last week on your run. It’s staying the course when it would be much easier to exit. It’s making tough choices to ensure you are living in alignment with your values. How do we do it? How do we push ourselves that little bit extra? It’s by living in community. When we live in community we create accountability for the goals and values that we define as most important to us. Inspire! has done this for me by creating a cadence where I review weekly what my values are and what goals are most important to me. Then I review my objectives and ... [More]

Goals: What, Why and When.

My weekend with the new iPad mini

I spent several hours this weekend with the new iPad mini and believe that Apple has another winner on their hands. I'm not sure how they do it. Something that seems just like a resizing of a previous device feels like it was tailor made for a new use case. When they first released the original iPad back in 2010, many thought that it was just a big iPhone and that it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Then they sold nearly 100 million of them and people realized that the iPad is much more than a big phone. It fit into a new niche that nobody thought they needed, yet it has changed lifestyles and the way people consume and create content. I believe that the new mini format will have a similar impact. I don't think it will be as much of a disrupter as the original but I do think we will see millions of people using this device in new ways. One example is typing. On the original iPad, you pretty much need to set it up with a stand in landscape mode on a flat surface or lap to type a documen... [More]

More kids successful with Inspire!

clock November 4, 2012 05:13 by author Chris Wollerman
After the success of our initial teens class earlier this summer, we decided to hold a session with 18 teenagers of our employees in Norfolk, VA just before school started this fall.  The two day class focused again on the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens with an emphasis on setting goals and planning weekly using Inspire! to accomplish their goals.  After 5 weeks, we received some great letters from both the teens and their parents about the impact of the training and tool.  Here is an excerpt from one of the encouraging letters (edited to remove the specific names) from a parent of one of the students: "I would like to thank you for giving my daughter the opportunity to participate in your program. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens and the Inspire application have made a wonderful and positive impact on her in many ways. Over the past few weeks, I have watched her grow as a person and as a teenager. She has made positive changes in the ways that sh... [More]
